You'll be dealing with Ian, not a call centre

Ian Pearson has been a locksmith on the Gold Coast for more than 30 years. Trade qualified. He answers the phone himself, quotes you before he gets in the van, and turns up in a signed vehicle.

That matters more than it should. A lot of “locksmiths” advertising in this market are dispatch hubs that route your job to whoever's cheapest and available — which is how a $19 call-out becomes a $400 invoice and a drilled-out lock that didn't need drilling.

City2Surf is one bloke, one van, thirty years, and a phone number that goes straight to him.

Bands cover the great majority of jobs. High-security, European and some late-model transponder work sits above these — if yours does, you are told the number on the phone and you decide before anyone is dispatched.

We quote a firm price for the job described. If what we find on site is different, we stop and re-quote before any work starts. Nothing is drilled without your say-so.

How to tell a real locksmith from a rip-off

Lockout scams are common enough that Google vets this trade harder than almost any other. Here is what to check — for us or for anyone else you call.

Unmarked car, no uniform

A signed van and a tech you can recognise

You will see the City2Surf van pull up and a uniformed locksmith get out. Not a hatchback with a toolbox.

No address, “we serve the whole state”

A real Gold Coast address, on the map below

We work a defined patch of the Coast. If you are outside it, we say so on the phone instead of dispatching someone two hours away.

The “$19 service call”

Published price bands, agreed up front

The number you are quoted is the number you pay for the job described. No mystery call-out fee bolted on at the end.

Drilling the lock straight away

We pick before we drill

Drilling is fast and it sells you a replacement lock. We pick first, and you are told before anything is destroyed.

An interstate dispatch hub

Ian answers the phone himself

No call centre, no subcontractor lottery. The person you speak to is the person who turns up.

A wall of undated five-star quotes

Live Google reviews, dated, with our replies

Absolutely brilliant service. Had our spare car keys stolen — they chased up replacements in quick time, then travelled outside their normal service area to reach us on holidays. Cannot recommend highly enough.
Jamie O'Neil
Absolute legend! Genuinely helped me over the phone without making a cent for himself — saving me a potential $500. Will definitely recommend to anyone in need.
Mick Barnao

Questions people actually ask

How much does a locksmith cost on the Gold Coast?

We publish price bands for the common jobs rather than a single teaser number. You are quoted a firm price for the job you describe before anyone is dispatched, and that is the price you pay. If what we find on site is genuinely different, we stop and re-quote before starting work. Be wary of anyone advertising a $19 or $29 call-out — that number is the opening move in the most common locksmith scam in the country, and the final bill routinely lands past $400.

How fast can you get here?

You will be given a realistic arrival window on the phone, based on where you actually are and what is already booked. We deliberately do not advertise a fixed number. Nobody can hold to a blanket '15 minutes anywhere' promise across a region this size, and a business that advertises one is telling you something about how it operates.

Are you open 24 hours?

Yes. Ian Pearson takes emergency call-outs 24 hours a day, seven days a week, across the Gold Coast, QLD. You reach him directly — there is no call centre and no dispatcher in another state.

How do I know you are a real locksmith and not a scam?

Check four things, with us or with anyone else you ring. One: a licence number in writing, not just the word 'licensed'. Two: a real street address, not 'we service all of Queensland'. Three: a firm price before dispatch, not a suspiciously low call-out fee. Four: a signed van and a uniformed tech, not an unmarked hatchback. Our licence number is at the top and bottom of this page and our address is on the map.

Will you have to drill my lock?

Usually not. We pick first. Drilling is quicker for the locksmith and it sells you a replacement lock, which is why some operators reach for it straight away. If a lock genuinely cannot be picked, you are told before anything is damaged and you decide.

Can you get into my car without damaging it?

In the overwhelming majority of cases, yes. We use proper automotive tooling rather than improvised methods, on everything from older mechanical locks through to modern transponder and proximity systems.

I have lost every key to my car. Can you still help?

Yes. Losing all copies is a bigger job than a simple lockout because the new key has to be cut and then programmed to the vehicle, and on some models the immobiliser or ECU needs resetting too. We carry the gear to do this at the roadside for most makes. Tell us the make, model and year on the phone and you will get an accurate price before we come out.

Do you rekey locks, or do I have to buy new ones?

Rekeying is usually cheaper and is the right answer more often than people expect — after a break-in, a tenancy change, a separation, or a lost set of keys. The lock body stays, the internals are recoded, and old keys stop working. We will tell you honestly when replacement is genuinely the better option.

Have you been broken into? What happens after hours?

Call straight away. Making the premises secure comes first, whatever the time. For a business we can secure the site immediately and come back in daylight for the permanent repair, so you are not left open overnight.

Which suburbs do you cover?

We work a defined patch of the Gold Coast, QLD, including Gaven, Southport, Surfers Paradise, Robina, Coomera, Yatala and the surrounding suburbs. If you are just outside it, ring anyway — you will be told straight away whether we can reach you, rather than having someone dispatched from two hours off.

Who actually turns up?

Ian Pearson. He is a trade-qualified locksmith with more than 30 years in the industry, he answers the phone, he quotes the job, and he is the one who arrives. No subcontractor lottery.
