Thirty years, one bloke, one van
Ian was doing this when transponder immobilisers first arrived in the Queensland market in the mid-90s, and has worked on every generation of the technology since. That's why the older cars — the ones the dealership shrugs at — tend to end up with him.
He's trade qualified, licensed, insured, and he answers his own phone.
Why it's still one van
City2Surf could have been ten vans and a call centre. Plenty of locksmith businesses on the Coast went that way.
The reason it didn't is simple. The moment there's a dispatcher between you and the person doing the work, three things change: the person quoting isn't the person doing the job, the price you were told isn't the price they're working to, and nobody owns the outcome.
That gap is where the entire locksmith scam industry lives. Not with dodgy tradesmen — with dispatch layers where nobody's name is on the job.
So when you ring this number, Ian answers it, Ian quotes it, and Ian turns up. It means he can't be in two places at once and sometimes you'll wait. It also means the price you're told is the price, every time.

How he works
The price you're told is the price
Quoted before he leaves. If the job turns out to be different when he arrives, he tells you before he starts, not after the door's open.
He picks before he drills
Drilling destroys a lock and adds the cost of replacing it. It's a last resort on a lock that's already failed, not an opening move.
He'll ask for your ID
Proof the car or the property is yours. Every time, including when it's inconvenient. A locksmith who won't ask you would open your place for someone else.
He'll tell you when it isn't a locksmith job
Sometimes the car needs an auto electrician and sometimes the lock is fine and the door has dropped. Saying so costs him a job and saves you a call-out.

Ian works the Gold Coast — Yatala down to Coolangatta, inland to Currumbin Valley and Gilston.
That's a real boundary, not marketing. A locksmith advertising “all of Queensland” is either a dispatch network or exaggerating, and either way the person turning up isn't local.
